Custom dashboards

Build your own dashboards from Kabeen's indicators, start from a template and share them with your workspace

Custom dashboards let you build your own views from Kabeen's indicators: key figures, trends, comparisons, breakdowns and rankings. You start from a blank page or from a Kabeen template, then keep each dashboard to yourself or share it with your whole workspace.

Opening custom dashboards

In the side menu, open Analysis, then the Custom tab, after Kabeen's own dashboards (Operations, Finance, Usage, Architecture, Technologies…).

The Custom dashboards page shows each dashboard as a card: a preview, its name, a padlock if it is private, then its number of widgets, when it was last updated and who created it. Favourite dashboards come first (see "Favourites" below).

Dashboards are created and edited on a computer: on phones and tablets, you can view dashboards but not edit them.

Creating a dashboard

From a blank page

  1. Click New dashboard (or Create my first dashboard if you don't have one yet).
  2. Give it a Name, different from your other dashboards' names.
  3. Choose its Visibility: Workspace, to share it with the whole workspace (the default), or Private, to keep it to yourself (see below).
  4. Click Register. The dashboard opens straight away in edit mode.

From a Kabeen template

Kabeen's dashboards under Analysis act as templates:

  1. Open the tab of the dashboard you're interested in, for example Finance.
  2. Click Edit. The dashboard switches to edit mode with the Template label: "Kabeen template: your changes will be saved as a new dashboard."
  3. Add, remove or rearrange widgets, then click Save as a new dashboard and give it a name.

The original template stays unchanged; your version joins the Custom tab.

Adding widgets

In edit mode, click Add a widget, in the header or in an empty slot of the grid. The window has two tabs: Explorer and Ready to use.

The Explorer

The Explorer builds a widget in four steps: Visual, Subject, Data and Display.

  1. Visual: choose the type of indicator.

    VisualUse
Key figureOne figure, and how it moved since the previous period
TrendFollow one or more measures over time
    ComparisonCompare categories, items or periods
    BreakdownShow how a total splits
RankingRank items, with the columns of your choice
  2. Subject: choose what you measure: Applications, Workstations, Users, Contracts, Servers, Network equipment, Networks or Data. For applications, set the scope: Inventory (validated, tolerated and refused applications), Discovered or All.

  3. Data: click the chips on the preview to choose the measure and how it is calculated (count, sum, average, minimum or maximum), then, depending on the visual, the breakdown, stacking, split or columns.

  4. Display: give a Custom title if needed, and choose the Period and how many items are shown. Depending on the visual, you also set the comparison with the previous period (key figure), the Orientation (comparison) or the Style, lines or areas (trend).

Click Add to place the widget on the dashboard.

Ready-to-use widgets

The Ready to use tab offers the indicators of Kabeen's dashboards, grouped by domain (Usage, Finance, Operations, Architecture, Technologies…). The Search an indicator field helps you find them. These widgets cannot be configured: you can only replace them. Only the indicators of the dashboards you can access are offered.

Arranging and saving

In edit mode:

  • drag a widget to move it: the widgets below move up to fill the space;
  • use the handle in its corner to resize it;
  • the pencil icon edits it and the bin icon deletes it.

Click Save to keep your changes, or Cancel to discard them. If you leave the dashboard with unsaved changes, Kabeen asks whether to save or discard them.

Viewing a dashboard

  • The Filters button restricts every widget on the dashboard to one or more teams. This filter is not saved with the dashboard.
  • On a Ranking widget, See more opens the full list, up to 50 rows.

Visibility and sharing

A dashboard always has one of these two scopes, set in its Visibility field:

VisibilityScopeWho sees the dashboard
WorkspaceShared with the workspaceEvery workspace member allowed to view custom dashboards
PrivateIndividualIts creator only: the dashboard doesn't show for any other member

A Workspace dashboard can be edited, renamed and deleted by every member who has the right to, not only by its creator. A Private dashboard can only be viewed, edited or deleted by its creator. Only the creator can change a dashboard's visibility, either way.

Favourites

A favourite is stored on the dashboard itself, not per member:

  • on a Workspace dashboard, Add to favorites puts it at the top of the list for every member of the workspace, and Remove from favorites removes it for everyone. Only members allowed to edit dashboards can change this favourite; the others see the favourite icon but cannot change it;
  • on a Private dashboard, the favourite only concerns its creator, the only person who sees the dashboard.

The list shows favourite dashboards first, then the others, from the most recently updated to the oldest.

To rename a dashboard or change its visibility, click its title or open its ⋮ › Settings menu. To delete it, choose ⋮ › Delete: deletion is permanent, for everyone who can see the dashboard.

Permissions

Custom dashboards have their own permissions, in the Dashboards family of the permissions table: read, edit (which covers creating) and delete.

With Prism

You can also ask Prism to create a dashboard: describe what you want to track, and Prism builds the dashboard, which you open from the conversation. A dashboard created by Prism is private unless you ask it to share it with the workspace. See Prism assistant.
