Custom Fields

Enrich applications, data or servers with custom fields

Kabeen lets you enrich applications, data and servers with custom fields. These fields supplement standard information such as name, category and criticality. They are shared across all resources of the same type and allow you to adapt the platform to your organization's specific needs.

Locating the Information section

Every resource has an Information section listing its base properties. To the right of the section title, a three-dots button (⋮) opens the field actions menu.

Adding a custom field

  1. Open a resource (application, data or server)
  2. Click the three-dots button (⋮) to the right of the Information title and select Add a custom field
  3. In the dialog, fill in:
    • Name of the field (required)
    • Type: choose from Dropdown, Text, Number, Date, etc.
    • Options: for Dropdown fields only, add the required values via "Add an option"
    • Field description: optional text area to clarify the expected use
  4. Click Add to create the field

When you add a field on an application, it automatically becomes available in the Information section of every application.

Reordering fields

  1. Click the three-dots button (⋮) and select Reorder fields
  2. Drag the fields into the desired order
  3. Confirm to apply the new order

On the Overview tab, only the first 6 fields are displayed initially.

Using custom fields

Once created, the fields appear in the Information section of every resource. To populate them:

  1. Open the resource
  2. Click the field area, then enter the value or select an option
  3. Values are specific to each resource and can be edited at any time

Custom fields can then be used in filters on resource lists and in visualizations (for example the flow mapping).

Best practices

  • Explicit name: pick a clear, short name that unambiguously conveys the nature of the field
  • Appropriate type: select the type that best matches the expected content to streamline input and filtering
  • Limited options: for Dropdown fields, define simple and stable options to avoid duplicates
  • Organization: place the most-consulted fields at the top of the Information section so they appear on the Overview tab
